Is Any Lock Unpickable?

Anyone conscious about their safety and security will look at some point wonder if any locks are unpickable. The truth is that even if a lock is currently unpickable, it may not be so in the future. Innovative and intelligent people exist, and one day they may break even the most secure lock.

Keeping this in mind is essential because you don’t want to fall into the trap of relying only on your lock to keep you safe. As the saying goes, “Locks keep honest people honest.” You should always have other security measures in place if your locks fail.

That being said, the following list is of the most secure locks currently available.

Uniquely Shaped Locks

In this first section, we will talk about two uniquely shaped locks with keys that make picking them extremely difficult, if not impossible. These locks have yet to be broken because they are scarce and unique. They are unpickable due mainly to the fact that they are unknown and unavailable for use in most locales. If these locks ever gain popularity, someone will figure out how to pick them. Remember this; there is no such thing as an unpickable lock.

Shi-He Chi-Me U-Lock

This key has a unique design making it hard to replicate with lockpicks. The keyway attached to this lock is partially obstructed, making it impossible for the thief to see what they are doing while attempting to pick the lock. The key pins are extremely varied and have quick turns that the lockpick cannot mimic. This key and lock is scarce and only seen used in very limited locales, so its virtual anonymity contributes much to it not being broken yet.

HYT Chain Key

This is a highly unique key that is also very delicate. This key is rather impractical because of how delicate it is, so it is also very rarely used, leading to it being unbreakable for the time being. This key has a very interesting design. The key itself is a loose chain that is inserted into the keyway. This type of key is nearly impossible to replicate, especially since the chain allows for turns and curves not possible with traditional keys. The keyway itself is curved, obscuring the view of the inside of the lock, making traditional lockpicking very much improbable.

Technologically Advanced Locks

This section will talk about two locks that are considered unpickable due to how technologically advanced they are. These locks could not be picked by any average criminal. If these locks are ever to be broken, individuals with much expertise and education in the technology field would be. That being said, it doesn’t mean that you should rely solely on these locks. Always have multiple security measures in place. No matter how safe your lock is, it is never safe to assume someone won’t figure out how to beat it.

EVVA MCS

This lock is one of the most technologically advanced products of its kind. It uses a magnetic key that is unique to each one. Each key has its magnetic pattern. Without actually possessing your key, a thief will not be able to replicate it. This key is also uniquely shaped in that it has very different types of key cuts and a rounded end. A lockpick will not be able to replicate those very distinct features.

August Lock

We end off with the lock deemed safest by those who try to break them. This lock will never be broken by lockpicks or bump keys. This lock runs on battery power, so it cannot be disabled due to power loss. This lock works almost entirely in sync with your cell phone. Unless the thief trying to rob your house has also stolen your cell phone, it is very unlikely they will gain entry. Even if that happened, they would still need to know precisely how your lock worked to be able to break it.

Conclusion

So, this ends our list of the most unpickable locks. There are, of course, probably others we aren’t aware of, but these are what we found. Remember, even if you have one of these “unpickable” locks, that doesn’t make your home impenetrable. If a determined criminal wants to enter your house, they will find a way.
